5/25/2002 - 7M Removal

I have now successfully removed the lower portion of the front valence. The upper portion can not be removed until the lower has been. The sequence is (I know now) to remove the lower valence, the bumper then the upper valence. With the lower valence and the bumper removed, the power steering line may be remove easily.

After removing the bumper I realized the car has been in a passenger side finder bender. It was nothing major but the bumper is slightly bend which explains why the front lower valence never fit right on that side.

I check the resistance of the stock injectors today. That are 14.5 ohm (which is what I thought they would be).

After stripping the front body work off, I began to free the engine from the car. Everything went smoothly. After disconnecting everything and releasing the engine mount bolts (which was pointless as they were broken anyway) I, with the help of my father, was able to fly the engine/tranny assembly out of the car with little trouble.

Some preliminary checks confirm that the MKIV engine brackets are in the correct position front to back to place the tranny in the correct position. The bell housing for this engine is 1" thinner, but the engine mounts are approximately 1" farther forward on it. I also confirmed that the mid sump oil pan will clear the A frame with room to spare.
