Race (and 1JZ) Buildup Journal
12/22/2002 through 12/30/2002 - Christmas Break
I spent my Christmas break working on, among other things, my Supra. The 2 main goals were to fabricate the turbo adapter and the engine mounts. The turbo adapter was made from 4" x 1/2" stock. I began with two plates, (both the same size, a little longer than the T4 flange). My TS04 must sit at a different angle than the T3 turbo the manifold was designed for. First I made a card board template that had both holes and the stud locations marked correctly. I then drilled and tapped the 4 stud wholes in each plate. Next I removed the common material from the blanks. Finally, using a hand grinder, files and a die grinder, I worked the whole out until there was a smooth transition from the T3 while to the T4 whole. The next project was to build engine mounts based on my hard mounts. The foundation is 2 (1 per mount) 1.75" leaf spring bushings. They are rubber (not ideal) but are very stiff and are designed for 20,000 lb axles and leaf springs. Unfortunately, I didn't have the proper bolts for the new engine mounts (I weldedthe set I had into the hard mounts) so I was only able to begin construction of the mounts. Also included below are pictures of the engine in the car using the hard mounts. The strut brace is installed to allow me to check hood clearance with the 1" of height the adapter will add. There is plenty of space.
