Introduction

In April of 2006 I found a 1987 Supra for sale. This was not just any mark 3 supra though. This car was already fully built out as a race car and had spent much of its life competing. I couldn't resist the urge to get on the track again, so I scrapped my 1JZ build up and opted to get a car that was much closer to finished.

After correcting several seveer problems on the turbo setup (mostly a cracked manifold) and replacing the entire exhaust, I have finally got the car where it needs to be. In early January of 2007 I completed a shake down track day. During this day the car ran very lean under boost so I simply drove the track at "normal" speed staying below 3500rpm. Shortly there after I took the car to StupidFast in Houston where Jason retuned the Tech I.

During the tuning sessions we discovered that it was not possible to put enough fuel into the engine for more than 8 psi of boost (which is curious because even the factory fuel system should support atleast 350 or 400 rwhp). So, we simply tuned it for 7psi (basicly the waste gate spring) so I could head to the track. My next project is reworking the fuel (probably with 720cc or 1000cc injectors).

In any case, the car runs very strong. On an early pull (not saved) at my intended low boost (14psi), the car made 375rwp by the point that Jason shut it down at 5500rpm due to a lean condition. At 11psi the car made just over 350rwhp by 5700rpm when Jason shut it off for still being lean (image below). In both cases, the power curve was still on the climb and I expect the car to make over 400rwhp at "high" boost of 18psi once the fuel is sorted out.

For now, the car is making 315rwhp (corrected) and 305ft/lb of torque at 7psi of boost. Given the cars weight (2850lb currently) this should make for some very nice track driving and should be very easy on the engine.
