Tx2K2 Recap

Thursday | Friday | Saturday | Sunday | Pictures of Note | Links

First and foremost, I would like to thank Peter Blach, Darin Wyborny and Rob Tuthill for all of their hard work. I would also like to thank Darin's wife and Peter's girlfriend, who both came out and helped. I would also like to thank the sponsors (MVP Motorsports, RPS, Powerhouse Racing, Jay Mark Toyota World, TurboImports.com, Wheel Kinetics, SupraSport.com, Sound Performance, Titan Motorsports, PTP Racing, Elite Motorsports, HKS, and Greddy). This was an awesome meet. Everyone I talked to though it was the best meet they had been to.

Thursday

Arrival

Thursday I hung out around the hotel waiting for everyone to arrive and just getting into the mood for the meet.

Dynos

We all knew in advance that there would be several open spots for the dyno. I arrived at 7:00 am (I was the second supra other than Peter) and grabbed one of the spots. My car put down 283 rwhp and 402 ft/lb of torque. There were 4 cars in the 800 rwhp range. The top horse power car put down 858 rwhp WITHOUT NOS (using a T88)! His license plate read 1000HP and he wasn't kidding.

Other highlights of the dynos included an exhibition pull by a Ferrari 550 Maranello [ferrari.com] and Hennessey's twin turbo Copperhead 800 Viper [hennesseymotorsports.com]. Supras are attractive, but the Ferrari was a 500hp (420 to the rear wheels) work of art. Every angle on the car was perfect. The owner was also extremely cool, taking people for rides and generally hanging out and talking. He also came to the road races and watched at the drags.

Night Life

A good part of the group headed to the normal night life spot in Houston. This was pretty much an all Supra gathering because the normal day for everyone is Saturday. Several groups went out for leisurely cruises.

Saturday

Road Racing

Like 2001, we used the old blimp base track for our road racing. This year there was a competition element. The first half of the day was open runs without timing. In the afternoon, those who wished to compete ran time trials. I believe that Andi Baritchi [boostaholic.com] had the best time. I ran in the morning, but I had mechanical difficulties (I killed my turbo again) so I just watched the time trials.

Group Dinner

Saturday night we gathered for a group dinner at Jillians (a big Dave and Busters like place). We packed all of their dinning facilities.

Night Life

Saturday is the big night life day in Houston and the normal meeting place was packed with the normal crowd. We added ~100 Supras to the mix. Most people couldn't believe the turn out of Supras.

Sunday

Drags

I didn't take any pictures at the drags, but I got to watch some good (and close) races. SW had the best run when he went 9.8s @ 154mph.

Pictures of Note

These pictures of me were taken by Barry Anders (www.houstonstangers.com and www.automobileportraits.com). They are reproduced here by his permission. He took lots of GREAT pictures at the blimp base. He can produce hi-res prints of any of them. Email him for details. The other pictures can be found here.
My car on the dyno at MTI. Taken by Chris Turner (links to his picture and video galleries below). A panoramic of most of the 3rd gen supras at MTI. We had a pretty good showing this year. Hopefully next year there will be alot more.
Yes, I was actually the forth person at MTI for dynos. This is the 550 Maranello, a rare sight in general, much less strapped to the dynos. He put down 418 rwhp and 360 ft/lb of torque.
Chad's old habits die hard. He just can't resist trying to lift a 3rd gen Supra. Lets pull it apart and see what's inside... The number of 4th gen Supras running big single turbos was absolutely staggering.
